Suffolk County District Attorney
The Democratic Party fields two candidates in the primary. Kevin Hayden (D) is the incumbent, having taken over for predecessor Rachael Rollins (D).
Kevin Hayden (D) won what might have been the nastiest 2022 primary in Massachusetts, beating Ricardo Arroyo (D) by a margin of 9 points. The contest included illegally-leaked documents that raised questions about Arroyo’s character in the final weeks of the race. As of September, Arroyo is pressing for an investigation to uncover the origin of the leak. The implication is, of course, that Hayden abused his powers as DA to leak the documents for his own political purposes.
Hayden began his career in the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, spent five years working in private practice as a criminal defense attorney, served as General Counsel, and was then appointed Chairperson of the state Sex Offender Registry Board. He coaches youth lacrosse.
There is no Republican candidate for the office in the general election.
