House of Rep. 15th Suffolk District
The State House of Representatives, along with the State Senate, forms the legislative branch of the state of Massachusetts. The legislative chamber creates laws and sets the budget.
Duties of members include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes. There are 160 total seats in the House. The term length is 2 years and there are no term limits.
The current office holder is Nika Elugardo (D), who ran unsuccessfully for State Senate 2nd Suffolk District. The Democratic Party offered a field of candidates vying to replace her.
Sam Montaño (D) won the Democratic primary decisively, beating the next closest opponent Longoria by over 30 points. She is a legislative advocate for affordable housing, equity, and climate resistance, who has received endorsements from Nika Elugardo and Sona Chang-Diaz. Sam’s Twitter bio states: “Redistribution of power and money” as priorities.
There is no official Republican candidate for the 2022 general election.
