US House District 7
The US House of Representatives is one of two chambers of the US Congress (the other being the Senate).
Members of the House are called Representatives and are elected in numbers proportional to the population of their state, meaning the higher the state population the more Representatives representing the state in the House.
Representatives serve two-year terms and there is no term limit. Committees and joint committees help divide the legislative labor of the House.
The current office holder for District 7 is Ayanna Pressley (D), first elected in 2019.
The incumbent Pressley won handily in the 2020 election and faced no primary challenge in 2022. She sits on the Committee on Financial Services and the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, among others.
Donnie Palmer (R) is the Republican candidate. He is “a special education teacher and professional heavyweight boxer.” He launched unsuccessful campaigns to become a Boston City Council member in 2015 and 2021. It remains to be seen whether his campaign strategy will evolve beyond hurling insults and trafficking in conspiracy theories on Twitter.
