Attorney General
Maura Healey (D), current AGThe Attorney General is the chief law enforcement officer and lawyer for the state. The office is publicly elected every 4 years and responsible for supervising operations of the five bureaus: executive, business and labor protection, criminal, government and public protection.
The current officeholder is Maura Healey, who assumed office in 2015. She is running for Governor in 2022.
Andrea Campbell (D) won the Democratic primary, beating Shannon Liss-Riordan by 15 points and Quentin Palfrey (withdrawn) by 35 points. She previously served as a member of the Boston City Council, representing District 4 (2016-2022). She has also served as deputy legal counsel to Governor Deval Patrick (D). She unsuccessfully ran for Mayor of Boston in 2021.
James McMahon (R) won the Republican primary unopposed. He is a trial attorney who worked in law enforcement during the 1970s. He wants to lift the ban on Happy Hours. He has never served in public office, but has unsuccessfully run for Attorney General (2018) and State Senate (2020).
