Ready To Rumble?
The Class of 2024
Rock N Roll Rumble is clearly fuxxing with Hump Day News. Compare the Class of 2023 with the Class of 2024. Look how the number of “reported on by Hump Day News” bands made the cut in 2024 versus the previous year. Not going to spell it out, but it’s a considerable jump. Conclusion? Much like Tupac Shakur in the 1992 crime/thriller Juice (how far will you go to get it?), Hump Day News has the JUICE. And/or fantastic taste…
Another way Rock N Roll Rumble is fucking with Hump Day News? By dribbling out the “reported on by Hump Day News” over every goddamn show in the preliminary round. Really making it hard not to catch & cover the whole thing. No promises. If you want to join up on this epic endeavor, get The Full Boat Pass if you gotta catch em all. Or just go show by show.
Let’s break it down show by show in the preliminary round…
Preliminary Night One
Thursday, April 4
9:00 Shotgun Waltz
9:45 The Magic City
10:30 Sunshine Riot
11:15 Twig
We’ve written up Sunshine Riot a couple of times. Kind of a neu grunge outfit with indie rock swagger that recorded an album with Steve Albini a while back. Twig, historically, brings huge headbanging to the stage, and we’ve got a writeup of their new single “Nude Beaches” coming soon. Check em out!
Preliminary Night Two
Friday, April 5
9:00 JATK
9:45 Gut Health
10:30 Trailer Swift
11:15 Type 66
Gut Health?! Hump Day News might be your leading online music news source for Gut Health news, with a raft of live coverage and music reviews. Never caught Trailer Swift, but kind of intrigued on satirical name power alone…
Preliminary Night Three
Saturday, April 6
9:00 Condition Baker
9:45 Other Brother Darryl
10:30 Wire Lines
11:15 Lovina Falls
Other Brother Darryl? Another band that Hump Day News has covered extensively, although half the time we spelled the name wrong. With only one ‘r’ in ‘Darryl.’ Honestly, who really knows how many ‘r’s are in Darrryl?
Preliminary Night Four
Thursday, April 11
9:00 Shiverlane
9:45 Ruby Grove
10:30 Looking Glass War
11:15 Bikethrasher
This is a two-fer! Hump Day News has caught bikethrasher and Ruby Grove all over town. The first is neo grunge rock n roll, the second spikes the punchbowl with some trip hop. Check em out!
Preliminary Night Five
Friday, April 12
9:00 The Roland High Life
9:45 Cold Expectations
10:30 The Ghouls
11:15 Never Gonna Make It
Just wrote up The Ghouls the other week! A killer band out of Lowell. And Hump Day News has written up The Roland High Life a couple of times, live and track reviews. Dive bar rock n roll brawlers. Put up your dukes!
Preliminary Night Six
Saturday, April 13
9:00 Robotic Hawks
9:45 Roser
10:30 CE Skidmore & The Damn Fine Band
11:15 Mammothor
Hump Day News first caught CE Skidmore & The Damn Fine Band at the JP Music Festival. Oh shit, that’s coming up too! Follow the JP Music Fest socials for fundraising gig updates.
Six nights of Preliminary Rumbling, and one or more“reported on by Hump Day News” bands on each of them. Might as well put us on the shadowy cabal of a selection board. Not joking!
OK, alright, let’s go see some music!
A soulful call and response between the flute and the kora.
A live solo ditty from an artist you know from Lewis Del Mar.
Andrew Stern; interview with DIY venue 4th Wall organizers; and more.
