JP Music Festival Celebrates Ten Years
The 10th edition of the JP Music Festival kicked off at Pinebank Field on Saturday, 10 September. The double-barreled stages guaranteed that the musical acts came fast and furious. The tall bill featured local talents, including the Thalia Zedek Band, Hallelujah The Hills, Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys, and much more.
The horse cops made friends with a little toy dog.
The baseball field offered ample room for fans to roam between vendors, merch tables, and the twin stages. Some food trucks canceled at the last minute, which meant long lines at the select few. No riots were reported.
A solid line-up of port-o-potties (sponsored by Badville) was on hand.
Standout artists include roots rockers CE Skidmore and the Damn Fine Band. Double Star mixed a little brass into a rock n roll attack. Not quite ska, but not quite not ska. Fauxmenco delivered a compelling hybrid of classical Spanish guitar and a more riff-forward style of play. Enough fingerpicking to give you a sense of tradition. Extra points for a great hand-percussion method on the guitar body. The Chops was a 4-piece brewing up some hard-boiled psych blues. Shades of The Black Crows.
Later in the evening acts like the Thalia Zedek Band, indie anthem rockers Hallelujah the Hills, and the traveling circus of Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys reminded the locals that there’s more than a little musical talent in the wonderful confines of the neighborhood and “greater” Jamaica Plain.
Ten years in the books – congratulations to all the organizers, artists, and sponsors for helping hit the milestone.
