Hallelujah The Hills: “Vitamin C”
“RIP to the great Damo Suzuki.”
That’s the message that Hallelujah The Hills is sending out to all points in the universe, high and low, with its cover of Can’s “Vitamin C.” Damo Suzuki, the OG krautrock vocalist of the legendary band from Cologne, passed away in February after devoting his life to music, to art, to an idiosyncratic kind of oracular genius. Can wasn’t the biggest rock n roll band of its era, and Damo Suzuki wasn’t plastered on the covers of teen heartthrob magazines. But the musical influence? Tremendous. Like a Velvet Underground, Damo and Can inspired more than mere fandom – they inspired a generation of creatives to follow their own star and introduce a little more beauty into the world than was there when they arrived. The cover by Hallelujah The Hills is a richly-deserved tip of the cap.
