Other Brother Darryl: “Gypsy Girl”

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Other Brother Darryl’s got to release an EP already, right? Between our highlighted track “Gypsy Girl,” “Coming Up Close,” and “Drive,” they’re more than halfway there.

Or maybe the local Americana rockers are saving up all their extra marbles to push for a full-length LP? Time will tell.

In the meantime enjoy this post-Dead lullaby with plenty of vocal harmonies and a fixation on the female as muse. Feels like we’re past the era in which ‘gypsy’ can be applied as a credible metaphor to describe a life lived by what is mostly likely an upper-middle class white woman having a hoot before, during, or after obtaining a graduate degree to boost her lifetime earning potential.

But Other Brother Darryl is rocking a Hammond B3 organ, plus a melodica too, so they’re fully invested in the throwback vibes. You can be too — make yourself easy.
