A guide to the 2024 Boston Music Awards

The 2024 Boston Music Awards is at Big Night Live on December 11.

Hump Day News was nominated for Best Music Publication.

You can vote for all the nominees here.

To honor our glorious symbolic inclusion and insufferable clout chasing, we’re rolling out the BMAde Betterz series for 2024. In this series we send the nominees through the meat grinder to yield three main categories of sodium-enriched meat byproducts.

  • The “New To Us”

    • Never heard of them, or at least never heard them. But they’re on the list, so let’s have a listen.

  • The “House Specials”

    • We’ve covered these acts, we treasure these acts, we 100% get why they’ve been nominated.

  • The “New To You”

    • These artists didn’t make the list, but they should have!

Pop Artist of the Year // Nominees

Bermuda Search Party // Clairo // Copilot // Coral Moons // Couch // Justin Clancy // Kaylee Federmann // Layzi // PVRIS // Zola Simone

Clairo hangs out with a bunch of wrestlers on her video for “Juna.” The Q-Tip Bandits give up their life of crime to rebrand as sunny poppers Bermuda Search Party. And Couch seems like an unlikely name for an RnB-inflected pop fusion outfit, but here we are.

We loved Coral Moons at their New Colossus gig. Locals Zola Simone and Justin Clancy, who brought his own choir, both hit the Orange Stage at Boston Calling. And Layzi has been making super sounds in the electro bedroom pop space for years.

Lavagxrl’s electro pop has been shading off into even more ambient territory lately with the release of return, and she flexed that more experimental sound at a recent Claire Rousay show. And Axel & Lolo craft intricate pop structures that dress themselves up singalongs for toddlers on acid. Bad dog! Wowzers, bowzers.
