Big thanks to all our Hump Nights Partners for the month. Capitol Theatre, Silhouette Lounge, Regent Theatre, and Midway Cafe. You make the magic happen!
Each month a well-deserving champ gets connected with a pair of tickets to films and concerts for the entire month. Hey, you don’t have to go to all of them. But it would be awesome if you did!
Congrats to last month’s winner, Caroline W.! Will you be the next Hump Nights Champ?
Three bands tonight, and two of them showcased dedicated vocalists, including Still Life Sounds. The five-piece band crafted dense, heavy textures with an electric guitar-led attack. Less shoegaze, more post rock. The singer had a cool Julee Cruise-type delivery that contrasted well with the churning fury of the six-strings and rhythm section.
The five-piece Rain House has a jammy vibe but they don’t strike you as a “jam band.” Seems like that identity brings with it a whole other set of ideological commitments. Less granola, more rocking prog vibes. Again, the band introduced a new singer (at least new to me) who joined the ensemble about two or three songs into the set. Sounded like an experiment in progress, which certainly gives the rest of the band more opportunity to focus on their instruments. If you haven’t seen this band lately, check em out.
Jiddo performed as a four-piece, rolling out a post hardcore set. What is a post hardcore set? A set that comes after hardcore. Apparently “Dan Sloane” was in the house? A former band member, who was freed up from his “theater shit in Connecticut” in time to make the show. Welcome back, Dan!
