Which DIY spot was it? I thought I heard some talk during stage banter about a Worcester location, but maybe it was Lowell?
In any event, DIY gigs are dicey propositions in the best of times. It’s a rare DIY spot that can offer a reliable and consistent platform for putting on a music show. They come, they go — enjoy it while it lasts.
And when it doesn’t last, lucky you if you can slot a date at Jamaica Plain’s favorite music venue Midway Cafe. Booker Heather Timmons, who juggles scheduling at at least two different locations, Midway Cafe and The Jungle, did a little dipsey-doo with the music calendars at each and conjured this show out of thin air. Or thinnish air. Because all the game pieces were available, you just needed a gameboard to play them on.
CJ Honey performed as an acoustic two-piece, vocals and guitar, with a pop punk edge to the alt and indie folkery.
The two-piece Merry Merry soundchecked their vocals to make sure the harmonies were coming out just right, which was key, because the guitar, bass, and backing tracks were primarily used as runways to let the voices take flight.
Is TIFFY spelled with all caps or is that just something I did the first time I wrote up the band, and then I did it every time afterwards in order to remain consistent? Have I asked this question before? Who am I, where am I, are all my limbs still attached?
Ahoy matey, it’s Sailor Down, sailing the seven seas in Jamaica Plain. Shiver me timbers! Their new album Maybe We Should Call It A Night is out now via Relief Map Records.
