The Democratic Party fields 2 candidates in the primary. Kevin Hayden (D) is the incumbent, having taken over for predecessor Rachael Rollins (D).

Kevin Hayden (D) began his career in the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, spent five years working in private practice as a criminal defense attorney, served as General Counsel and was then appointed Chairperson of the state Sex Offender Registry Board. He coaches youth lacrosse.

Ricardo Arroyo (D) is a member of the Boston City Council in Massachusetts, representing District 5, who assumed office in 2020. He will need to step down if he wins the DA race, as his term does not end until 2024.
