Lieutenant Governor

The Lieutenant Governor is the second ranking officer of the executive branch and the first in line to succeed the governor. The office is popularly elected every four years.

The current officeholder is Karyn Polito (R), who assumed office in 2015.

The race will feature primary battles on both sides of the aisle.

Kim Driscoll (D) has been the mayor of Salem since 2005. She has “been on the ground.”

Tami Gouveia (D) is a current member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 14th Middlesex District. She assumed office in 2019. Her committee work includes the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Joint Committee.

Eric Lesser (D) is a current member of the Massachusetts State Senate, representing the 1st Hampden and Hampshire District. He assumed office in 2015. His committee work includes serving in the Senate Ways and Means Committee, as the Senate chair of the Economic Development and Emerging Technologies Joint Committee, and as the chair of the Senate Ethics Committee.

Kate Campanale (R) was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 17th Worcester District, from 2015-2019.

Leah Cole Allen (R) was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, representing the 12th Essex District, from 2013-2015. She resigned to focus on her nursing career. She is the running mate of gubernatorial candidate Geoff Diehl.
