Lunar Ark: “Guillotine”
A 19:29 post metal annihilation from the Boston-based drone slayers. It’s Lunar Ark with “Guillotine.” This song could easily be an entire set. Why not? It climbs the mountains, floods the plains, sinks into wine-colored seas. The vocals are all screams, so you’ll need the liner notes.
Verse 1 goes:
“We live in the shadows of skyscrapers;
Vacant luxury apartments,
These will never be our homes,
Our feet will never know those hardwood floors,
Our wrists never resting on those marble countertops
Closed eyes, dreaming, on a king sized bed.
Sleeping fine, down for the whole night.”
Looks like a screed decrying gentrification. You know what to do with that guillotine, eh? You can always tell where an 18th and 19th century European historian sits on the ideological spectrum in virtue of what they emphasize about the French Revolution. Are they focused on the death and destruction? Or the end of monarchy and the promise of universal equality among all of humanity?
