Gabriel Birnbaum: “Perfect Again”
It’s been a minute since Gabriel Birnbaum’s last solo release. About 345,600 minutes since the quizzical Nightwater release, a limited run tape full of “ambient Tascam exploration.”
The quiet indie rock gem Not Alone (2019), though, is probably the proper milestone to measure by. Which puts us at around 2,592,000 minutes since the artist stepped away from his regular musical haunt Wilder Maker and rallied a full backing band to realize a solo vision.
Here comes Patron Saint of Tireless Losers, already on the shortlist for most memorable album titles of the year.
What’s changed since Not Alone? Ask us after we hear the whole enchilada, but if the lead single is any indication, Birnbaum’s songwriting economy keeps economizing. At 2:50 our highlighted track “Perfect Again” packs more lush detail into 170 seconds than most artists can muster in a full album.
We’re literally counting the minutes until the album drops in June. Available via Western Vinyl.
