Krallice: “Faustian Bargain”

Who doesn’t love a good Faust-inspired art metal jam. Thanks, Krallice!

Faust, AS YOU MAY RECALL, made a pact with the Devil to trade his soul for limitless knowledge and worldly pleasures. Thanks, Wikipedia!

The moral to the story is supposed to be, I guess, don’t do that! In truth, it sounds like too good of a deal. Must have been a more optimistic age that dreamt up this story. An age in which the notion of absolute knowledge and infinite pleasure was at least accessible as a kind of goal, if unattainable without supernatural assistance.

But who today believes that infinite knowledge is anything except another form of ignorance? And who today believes that infinite pleasure is actually pleasurable? Go watch one of those “monkey’s paws” movies and get back to me.
