Some lean soft into the video game aspect of chiptune. DonutShoes leans hard. Most of the sound elements of the main hook could have been peeled right off a video game. Except maybe the saxophone, unless you’re talking about later generation consoles and their stronger audio computing power. But it’s the low tech blurbs, bleeps, and squiggles that draw the ear in our highlighted track “Smackaroons” from Shelton, Connecticut’s chiptune lord extraordinaire.
