Claire Rousay: “Tuufuhhoowaah”
Claire Rousay is an experimental musician.
If you’re doing it right, there are no guardrails or preset parameters on how you should be doing it. Because it’s experimental! The downside is you never quite know when the thing is done. Mission accomplished?
Guardrails can provide comfort in a psychological way to artist, audience, and critic alike by giving you an aesthetic precedent for what counts as completion, catharsis, resolution. The only guide that good experimental provides is an intuitive sense that the thing…happened.
Not everyone has that intuition, but if you do, our highlighted track “Tuufuhhoowaah” will have your Spidey-Sense tingling. What is that sound at the start? A triangle? The sound rings out with uncut purity, and leads you by the hand into sonic terrain the existence of which you only suspected. Which is a good thing.
Also, sounds like tinnitus. Which is worth a visit but you wouldn’t want to live there.
