ullnevano x God Sense Beats: “Ghost of Reggie Lewis”
Prepare to be haunted.
The image of Celtic basketball great Reggie Lewis collapsing on the court in the 1993 playoffs is burned into the collective unconscious of New England. Doctors diagnosed him afterwards with "focal cardiomyopathy," an irregular heartbeat condition that should have ended his career.
According to Wikipedia, which is always correct, Lewis sought and received a second opinion that pinned his ailment to a less serious condition. He died a few months later on a practice court in Waltham.
That an athlete in peak condition, to the layman’s eye, could be brought down in the blink of an eye was a jarring experience for family and fans. A reminder of all our mortality. Like the Flaming Lips said, “Do you realize // That everyone you know someday will die?” The collab record by ullnevano and God Sense Beats builds on the gravitas of its theme to deliver rhymes with an old school feel.
