Stirrup: “Chill Cot”
Written By Michael Gutierrez
Fractured experimental jazz going sixteen ways at once. Like you knotted together four rollercoasters. That’s the sensation of riding out our highlighted track “Chill Cot” from Stirrup. The Chicago jazz trio uses electronics from time to time, but the vibe is mostly (all?) analog here. Fred Lonberg’s cello is given all the freedom to roam it wants, and the results sound like an alley cat holding on the edge of a cliff with one claw. In a good way.
