Mikaela Davis and Circles Around the Sun: “After Sunrise”
Alt folk out of the Catskills? Our highlighted track “After Sunrise” is sounding more jazzy. Mikaela Davis & Circles Around the Sun have a lot of tools in the toolbox, so they can probably sound all kinds of ways. When the electric guitar starts wandering about halfway through the song, you hear the rock element come through. The six-stringers, with a healthy assist from some psych keyboarding, whisk the melody up & away into the marshmallow clouds sailing on the blueberry breeze. No lyrics – who needs ‘em? Just a bunch of “la la las.” Off the full-length album by the same name After Sunrise. Available via Kill Rock Stars.
