Madeline Kenney: “HFAM”
Take Two. The Oakland artist takes a stripped-down swing at A New Reality Mind. Madeline Kenney’s ANRM came out in the middle of 2023, her first self-produced album. The recording was full of all the studio bells & whistles that you might want.
Sometimes a piano player, though, just wants to vamp out at the keys by herself. Hence, The Same Again (Tiny Telephone Session). Minimal arrangement, no frills, same songs as ANRM.
If Kenney was a NFL head coach adding an “offensive advisor” to the coaching staff, the local sports press would start to wonder if she was satisfied with the job that the current offensive coordinator was doing. Sports analogy!
Since Kenney produced ANRM herself, though, maybe it’s just scratching a creative itch and never feeling like a project is complete. Like they say, a film is never completed, it’s only scuttled, unreleased, and converted to a tax write-off.
