An experimental music track with a soft opening. It’s the bane of experimental music trying to find a foothold with a mainstream music audience. Not saying that Phicus is trying to do that, just saying. Those first thirty seconds matter if you’re trying to hook a listener. The first five seconds matter! We made a similar remark with reference to Anna Webber’s jazzy “Swell.” But what does it matter? Our highlighted track “Ni” has over thirty-six minutes to work with, and if they want to ease into things at their own pace, it’s all part of the magic. Nouveau No Wave vibrations abound, like a kindler, gentler Glenn Branca meets Kali Malone. Available via Tripticks Tapes.
