Lee Scratch Perry: “Jesus Life”
Hardly a blip on the radar of the dub legend’s discography. But this album supposedly contains the last recorded vocal performance of Lee Scratch Perry before he died in 2021, the appropriately named “Goodbye.”
Our highlighted track, though, is “Jesus Life.” Why? It’s a tiny little banger of the variety that the artist exhaled without thought and barely any effort late in life. Off the full-length King Perry.
Not the song or album that you will remember the legend for, but like Jesus, the king of dub will rise again in the afterlife on the strength of his good deeds on earth and favors bestowed upon him by the blessings of God. Let’s all pour one out again for Lee Scratch Perry.
