Kalia Vandever: “Unfaltering”
If this music was played with Americana folk instruments, we’d call it cosmic. But the driving instrument in our highlighted track “Unfaltering” is a jazzy trombone. And jazz is living in the shadow of John Coltrane’s acid trip, and hiding under the cape and cowl of Sun Ra, so that’s how it’s supposed to sound, right? Appreciate, though, that this is a minimalist, slowcore experiment that has as much to do with Philip Glass as the jazz tradition.
