J Mascis: “What Do We Do Now”

The piano takes the lead. I mean, sure, yeah, there’s a J Mascis solo in the title track to the guitar god’s latest LP What Do We Do Now. But he gets it up to speed and out of the way as quickly as possible in the second half of the song. It’s as if he wanted to focus on his vocals and delivering the message contained in the lyrics on a pivotal song that serves as a thematic key to the whole album. Maybe that’s exactly what he’s up to. If you like ol’ groaner J in full croonster mode (and who doesn’t?), the title track has got you covered. Via Sub Pop.
