Kim Gordon & J Mascis: “Abstract Blues”

A collaboration that sounds exactly like you thought it would. The low, breathy wordsmithing of Kim Gordon up front, the meaty “guitar solo as both rhythm and lead” of J Mascis in back. These musicians have known each other forever, shared many bills, but “never released music together.” Is that true? I seem to remember J Mascis solos floating around somewhere in Sonic Youth’s Whitey Album. Maybe they’ve never released music as a duo. This project came about as part of a benefit for Seattle Children’s Hospital in 2020. That’s what it takes to make stuff happen sometimes. Children staring down death. Via Sub Pop.
