GracieHorse: “Run Ricky Run”
A smoky, alt country number with just enough reverb to take the edge off from GracieHorse. Shades of Sheryl Crow for some reason. Maybe it’s the rock roots that stick out from beneath the surface, like the roots of a city sidewalk tree erupting at the weak points in the concrete. Our highlighted track “Run Ricky Run” is not, at bottom, country. Sure, it’s got some banjo and steel pedal. But the pleasure the track takes in periodic guitar distortion and rock n roll moodiness (not to mention the cavernous breakdown) drops breadcrumbs along a path that leads to dives beyond the honky tonk universe. You’ll enjoy the album’s travels.
