Friends of Jerry: “Althea”
Written By Michael Gutierrez

Like any good jam band, releasing the boots. Philly’s Friends of Jerry has more than a dozen live recordings to fish through on their Bandcamp page. Our highlighted session is the latest at the time of writing, an August gig (8/1/2024) in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Just a stone’s throw from Philadelphia. As you might suspect, a band that is very friendly to the Grateful Dead. Our highlighted track within the session is a cover of Grateful Dead’s “Althea,” marked on the setlist as “FTP.” Had to do a little research here. “FTP” = “first time played,” right? Give the 10-minute sparkler a chance.
