Surgeons Girl: “Sympathetic Cycle”
The final track “Sympathetic Cycle” of Surgeon Girl’s four-song EP A Violet Sleep has the eery, anxiety-ridden lean that will keep you up at night. If you put the inner machinations of the HAL 9000 to music – ruminating all the while on how to dispose of its human cargo – this is what it would sound like. Serene, beautiful, and cold. Ice cold. Cold as the deepest reaches of empty outer space. This is music that will play along to the twinkling stars 10,000 years after humans have long gone extinct. Or what Plato called the “music of the spheres.” The other three tracks on the EP vibe easier.
