Please Don’t Think It’s Funny

Daniel Knox covered the classic Mister Rogers tunes and it’s no joke. Of course, the Chicago-based artist begins his 11-track cover album with “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.” It’s the “Hotel California” of the Mister Rogers catalog. But far rarer gems are to be found squirreled away in this collection. Knox’s piano artistry is put to good use, bringing the pathos of the childhood rhymes to the surface with haunting abandon.

Shout out to the wonderful duet with Kit Shields on “Sometimes I Wonder If I’m A Mistake.” The two vocalists make a gorgeous, jazzy pairing.

Our highlighted track “Please Don’t Think It’s Funny” reminds us of youthful insecurities and the worry that you're the only one in the whole wide world who has ever felt weird, vulnerable, or out of place. Youthful insecurities? Adults will appreciate the reassuring cadence of Knox’s Mister Rogers as much as anyone.
