You ever play Mancala?
It’s one of those ancient games that dates back to before the time of, you know, writing.
Seriously. The earliest Mancala board ever discovered was unearthed in Jordan, dating to about 5,870 BCE. Thanks, Wikipedia!
The rules have to be pretty intuitive if the game comes from a time before writing. No book-length instruction manuals.
Sure enough, it’s simple to start playing. It’s a two-person, turn-based strategy game that involves walking chips around a board until they land in your own little reservoir. You want to get more than your opponent – whoever has the most chips at the end wins.
There are variations in the rules affecting when and how you can move your chips, but the basic idea remains: have more chips than your opponent at the end.
OK, so what? So nothing. Just playing some Mancala at Deep Cuts before the show. Between enjoying the game, enjoying a beer (invented around 3,500 BCE), and enjoying the music (dating back 35,000 years ago?), it was a pretty prehistoric night.
Weatherless
Weatherless were a late add after Saturniids dropped off the bill. The four-piece alted the rock with some minor emo undertones. Extra points for coming to the rescue. No complaints on a freebie show (shout out to Deep Cuts for hosting and the bands for playing) but a one-band bill is thin gruel. Unless the band is Rosali.
This Day In History
Straight outta Lynn! This Day In History is heading out on tour. Maybe coming to a town near you? The four-piece traded vocal duties between the guitarist and bassist. This band knows local. Last time in the back room of the Silhouette Lounge they pulled out a Krill cover.
