Lay It Down

A musical preview of artists who bring it all back home at In Between Days 2023.

A ‘requiem’ is ‘an act or token of remembrance.’ What’s Blitzen Trapper remembering? Requiems can get real serious, epic, and impressive. Like Mozart’s Requiem in D Minor. Or Angel Bat Dawid’s Requiem For Jazz. As a one-off Americana track with upbeat lyrics, it’s a harder circle to square. Is this mourning? Maybe so, but who’s mourning here. Blitzen Trapper or the golden honey walking through the door? Maybe don’t think too deeply on these things and enjoy the tambourine-infused medium tempo folksy singalong that invites you to shine a light through the dark day.

Trampled By Turtles

Don’t you know it! Quitting is rough. That’s why we never do it. The Americana splendor of Trampled By Turtles’ LP Alpenglow, produced by Jeff Tweedy, is on full view in our highlighted track “Quitting Is Rough”. The banjo and cello lend an extra player of country poignancy to this grassy jam.

Sweet Petunia

Sweet Petunia! It’s the sort of exclamation that Adam West’s Batman would have dropped. No word on whether the Boston two-piece folksters Sweet Petunia are fans of the Dark Knight. But they’ll make you fans of Appalachian textures, from acoustic guitar to banjo, erupting with a rock n roll edge.

Kat Wright

What do you want to be told? Burlington’s Kat Wright crafts a vocals-forward, acoustic-driven Americana. Listen for the little details. The bass runs, the vocal trills, the endless harmonies all delivered with a minimalist touch that let each sound sink in like a sun- finally finding its -set. Extra points for the Bread & Puppet shout out in the Bandcamp liner notes!
