Sour Widows: “Big Dog”

An alt rock rambler with a mean build. That’s the profile of our highlighted track “Big Dog” from the bay area’s Sour Widows. Do you capitalize ‘bay area’? Is this song about an actual, real life big dog, or is it purely a metaphor? For a hot second the lyrics seem to suggest a narrative being told from a canine’s point of view. Something about “running by me and smell me.” Before you can puzzle all the pieces together the song’s turned the corner into a heavier kind of instrumental hurricane. There’s a calm after the storm, in quiet-loud-quiet fashion, but the dog business remains a blessed mystery. Off Revival of a Friend. Available via Exploding In Sound Records.
