Sean Nicholas Savage: “Screamo”

The Bandcamp blurb describes the artist as a “cult songwriter.” Is that what Sean Nicholas Savage is?

Not that we’re drowning in the verse and scripture of SNS PR blurbs, but we’re fans of the artist over here at Hump Day News, and haven’t noticed that tag as part of the pitch.

One of the many charms of the singer/songwriter is his untethered embrace of his own musical vision, which requires him to not mind (or even notice?) that his music is sometimes swimming upstream. You know, he’s writing and performing music that belongs to a world in which Michael Jackson is still alive and disco music defeated the Allied Forces in World War II.

It’s an artistic choice that’s refreshing in its earnest singularity. If that makes it “cult,” then let’s join the cult. At least for a few spins of the new LP Trilogy. We’re not living off beans, wearing white Nike Decades, and sleeping in bunk beds.
