NICE GUYS: “Desert Rose”
Written By Michael Gutierrez
Stripped down basement punk. NICE GUYS bring a little more than your standard three- or four-chord progression salad. It’s a rhythm-forward kind of thing with a bouncy vibe. Which would do the job by itself, but wait for the song to blow up like a wad of m-80s in a mailbox at around the 1:25 mark. All of a sudden the track is a power rock, psych exploration, Wild West rambler for about 20 seconds. The fireworks are gone before you know it, just like punk songs in general.
