Nadah El Shazly: “Breakup By The Sea”

A harp run through electronics? This is a tripped out sound coming out of Cairo. We’ve been collecting samples of modern harp lately, from Petaluma Vale, to Mary Lattimore, Photocomfort, Brandee Younger, and more. It’s an underused instrument that can spin off in a lot of different directions, none more haunting lately than Nadah El Shazly’s fingerpicking. The artist sets a mood worthy of a noir whodunnit. Smoky, slow, mysterious. The harp leads the way on our highlighted track “Breakup By The Sea.” If only those 47-string behemoths were a little lighter and less bulky, you’d see & hear more of them in pop music.
