Madeline Kenney: “Superficial Conversation”
The neu soft rock goddess rides again. The Oakland-based artist Madeline Kenney is a straight ahead pop artist, cranking out music that already feels like a VH1 classic. In a knowing way? Sure. There’s a sneaky ASMR element in her ethereal vocals. Some might call it dream pop, screwing in the same light bulb as Julie Cruise or Annie Hart. Our highlighted track “Superficial Conversation” packs a surprising amount of musical pathos into what must have been a throw away social encounter. Are we sure that Kenney isn’t from the East Coast? The spacey New Age synth doth protest too much. Off the full-length A New Reality Mind.
