Kalia Vandever: “Unfaltering”

See this content in the original post

If this music was played with Americana folk instruments, we’d call it cosmic. But the driving instrument in our highlighted track “Unfaltering” is a jazzy trombone. And jazz is living in the shadow of John Coltrane’s acid trip, and hiding under the cape and cowl of Sun Ra, so that’s how it’s supposed to sound, right? Appreciate, though, that this is a minimalist, slowcore experiment that has as much to do with Philip Glass as the jazz tradition. A 2:39 mood setter from Kalia Vandever, straight outta Brooklyn, where the average rent is slightly higher than Queens. Off We Fell In Turn. Via AKP Recordings.
