Jessica Pratt: “Better Hate”

Last time I checked in with Mexican Summer, it was to write up a Quilt album (or track, I can’t remember) about a million years ago. What you been up to lately? Our highlighted track “Better Hate” by Jessica Pratt is a reverb-drenched, throwback vocals, pop ditty with minimalist instrumentation and a classic mid-20th century studio sound. If Quilt is my other point of reference, then I definitely see the throughline from the Mamas & the Papas vocals of Quilt to the 60s pop “good girl” vamping of Jessica Pratt. This label loves the clean(ish) vocal stylings of yesteryear. Off Here In The Pitch. Via Mexican Summer, obviously.
