Farah Kaddour: “Estehlal”

Have buzuq, will travel. What’s a buzuq? A stringed instrument popular in folk and classical Arabic music. The artist Farah Kaddour hails from Beirut, and serves up a mix of composed and improvisational pieces on the full-length (presumably, not all the track times have dropped) Badā. Our highlighted track “Estehlal” leads off the album and pushes the buzuq to its limit straight out of the gate with high velocity plucking & picking. Can this intensity be sustained the whole album? Available via Asadun Alay Records.
