Black Beach: “Psychic War”

The guitar and vocals are all No Wave manifesto punk, but the rhythm section is begging you to dance. Sounds like the same bass line from start to finish. You could probably sneak in a bass sample to do the job in the recorded version, but that doesn’t seem like Black Beach’s style. It’s a real hands-on operation from all the band members. But there’s no mistaking that our highlighted track “Psychic War” shines the spotlight brightest on the careening noise guitar solo, which lifts off from the rhythm section like an airplane pulling free from the tarmac and disappearing somewhere beyond a distant cloud.
