Damien Jurado: “Nieman Marcus”

Shout out to writing a song about Neiman Marcus, not to be confused with the American lawyer and city planner Norman Marcus.

Neiman Marcus is/was a luxury brand retailer founded in 1907 by Herbert Marcus, not to be confused with Herbert Marcuse, the German-American philosopher, social critic, and political theorist, associated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory.

Wait, what’s happening here? Is Damien Jurado narrating a song about losing his mommy in a department store?

Who can say for sure, but the sweet folk mewlings would not be out of place on the soundtrack to a David Lynch film sendup of 50s pop culture.
