Bombino: “Ayo Nigla”
You hear the traditional Sahel sounds in the first guitar line. The Tuareg singer-songwriter Bombino has more international and contemporary pop influences in his body of work, but his first calling card is the folk sounds of the desert guitar. Wait a bit, though, let the song unfurl. You’ll hear the folk guitar influences from all across the globe that have permeated into the guitar playing of this itinerant musician and his band of globetrotting brothers. Did you catch the band at Crystal Ballroom? If you didn’t pick up their new record Sahel, you can stream it and buy it on Bandcamp.
