Battlemode: “Playlist”
The chiptune duo is back! As a trio! Not playing chiptune!
Seriously though, our highlighted track “Playlist” is a gentle step away from 8-bit and, if you hadn’t heard, Battlemode added a guitarist to the mix.
While the spacey synth melody bopping throughout the song is probably rendered via a modded Gameboy in live performance, the song doesn’t quite foreground the twee tropes of chiptune as doggedly as other Battlemode tracks. Instead you’ve got a song that’s aiming to be a straight up mainstream dancehall banger, and does a pretty good job at it.
No pun intended, this slick single could sneak its way onto the playlists of people who, for better or worse, don’t own Yoshi-themed underpants. It’s a new dawn and a new day. That little green dino’s gonna get along just fine.
