Brooklyn’s Evolfo makes no bones about their worship at the altar of psych rock. 2021’s Site Out of Mind checks all the boxes: reverb, surreal lyrics, organ jam outs, polychromatic magical mystery mindfuck aesthetic.

The lead track “Give Me Time” is a fairly approachable pop number with the verses, and the chorus, and the respectable instrumental break here and there – only the stray phase or flange hints at the underlying weirdness.

But if you want a real incandescent cerebellum, barn burning freakout, tune into the organ-heavy “Orion’s Belt,” our highlighted track. It’s got all the subtlety of a leafblower droning away on a Sunday afternoon, and that’s why we love it. Shades of MMOSS, Quilt, White Birds, Dr. Dog – basically anybody who listened to the Beatles catalog after 1964.
