No Más
Not everyone digs the intersection of jazz and spoken word, but it comes so naturally to Irreversible Entanglements that even the unconverted wouldn’t want them to change a thing.
Except for the final track “Bread Out of Stone,” all the songs off Who Sent You? are long breathers that take time to develop and tell their story. The 5-piece knows how to build moments of near cinematic drama into their soundscapes, pausing the pre-planned compositions for flashes of improvisational flourish in both voice and instruments.
The dueling horns and nimble percussion of our highlighted track “No Más” puts the listener on edge and maintains a kind of mantric intensity that lifts you up, transports you, until it unceremoniously dumps you off at the end of the line like a drunk who slept through his stop.
