It’s A Celebration, Bitches

Slo-Anne does it live at Deep Cuts on Wednesday, 31 July 2024.

Human Mascot and Hey, I’m Outside open the triple-stack bill in the eatery, brewery, and live musicery.

The Jamaica Plain Music Festival is coming!

Also known as the JP Music Fest. That’s got more zing.

This year’s edition is coming your way September 7, and each edition is organized with tender love and care by a neighborhood community that loves live music and knows how to have a good time. This is a bottom-up affair, by and for the people, and it needs your support.

If you missed the annual Smell The Love fundraiser, you can still donate below!

If you missed the fundraiser show in March at the American Legion Hall with Rick Berlin, Colonel Broccoli and the Legion Basement Band, and Fantastic Trees, you can still donate below!

If you missed the annual classic fundraiser John Casey’s JP Bar Wars at Midway Cafe, you can still donate below!

Do your part to keep Jamaica Plain fresh AND funky.

Hey, I’m Outside

If you’re looking for a reason to have a show, celebrating the release of a record is a great excuse. Three bands – Slo-Anne, Human Mascot, and Hey I’m Outside – assembled to mark the occasion of Slo-Anne’s EP whiplash. In other “time is a flat circle” news, the latter band will be back at Deep Cuts on September 18 to launch their own self-titled record on a triple-stack bill with Me In Capris and Juicer. More of a tape than a record, with a goat face on the cover.

The poster for the show has a goat on it too.

Human Mascot

The three-piece Human Mascot grinded out the underground lullabies with tender loving care. But they didn’t come into full form and discover all their earthly rawkitude until the guitarist reverted to an exotic tuning and the trio started playing “shit rock.” Is shit rock a genre? Maybe more like a lifestyle.

Slo-Anne

The belle of the ball, Slo-Anne, closed out the night with a set that was recorded live and uploaded into the ether less than a week later. That’s right. The brother-and-sister rock n roll duo celebrated the release of their record whiplash by releasing an entirely new record right on top of it.

Compare the two track listings side by side.

What have we learned? Slo-Anne is averse to capitalizing in the studio, but embraces the upper-case in a live setting. “Cramps” and “Melting” didn’t make the cut. And you’ve got to end with “Juicebox” because “Juicebox” is a banger.

By the way, seems like there’s a new weird toy called the Palm Reader near the bar. Is it as challenging as The Challenger?
