Keep It Inside
Boston’s Squitch is a fun band name to say. Squitch. Say it three times fast:
Squitch! Squitch! Squitch!
The name might be stupid fun, but the songwriting has a more challenging and ambitious edge on their full-length Learn To Bel Alone. Call it art rock. Call it math rock. Call it whatever you like.
Squitch carves up surprising notes, percussive hits, and angular fretwork into three-minute chunks. The staccato phrasemaking keeps the listener on edge. It’s not an album for relaxation in a hot tub. But each song exudes its own power, and the halting delivery zeros in the listener’s focus to smart, confessional lyrics. Shades of Sonic Youth in the Guv’ner mode, with a dash of Zappa-meets-Q and Not U.
Our highlighted track “Keep It Inside” cooks.
Squitch! Squitch! Squitch!
