Ex Are My Copilots

Ex Pilots at the Silhouette Lounge

Ex Pilots fly ex planes at the Silhouette Lounge on Wednesday, 13 March 2024.

Rougarou, Orange Peel Mystic, and FEEP open the four-stack bill.

Can you feel the denim in the air tonight?

Here’s a blurb about the global denim market:

“Most commonly used for jeans, a fundamental component of the casual wardrobe, denim has become a staple textile within the global apparel market. The market value for denim fabric was estimated to be worth 27.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2022 and was expected to increase to over 35 billion U.S. dollars by 2027.”

27.1 billion dollars must be a low estimate because witnesses witnessed three denim commandos on the 66 bus en route to the Hump Night at the Silhouette Lounge. It’s unclear if the trio was headed to the show, or just flying high in the general direction of Allston for the thrills and chills.

Denim is great because if you fall off your motorcycle at top speed you’re less likely to skin your flesh to the bone. Though black leather with tassles is probably even better.

Denim is great because you can wear it top to bottom. Jean shoes, jean jeans, jean jacket, jean cowboy hat. All denim, all the time.

Denim is great because if you’re wearing denim, and you’re hanging out with friends who are wearing denim, you immediately qualify as a street gang. Don’t bring wool, silk, or pleather to a denim fight.

Rougarou

Swamp rock with an electrified banjo that you can headbang to. It’s Rougarou! Boggy jams, drum blitzes born on the Bayou, and guitar pickin’ and lickin’ for days. Hellz yeah.

Orange Peel

Mystic

The more times you see the two-piece Orange Peel Mystic, the more you appreciate what a great opportunity this band is for unleashing the drums. The synth player upfront pours out miles and miles of tarmac for the percussive elements to travel. Almost feels like they should add another percussionist and lean even harder in that direction. Grab the conga player from Targus Targus!

Shout out to the line of Orange Peel Mystic Squad apparel.

FEEP

Does FEEP all-caps its band name or did I see that once and just assume that was protocol? The alt punk four-piece looked like a three-piece because the keyboardist either didn’t have a keyboard stand or digs keeping a low profile. Higher profile than the Supermarket Parking Lot keyboardist though – he just sits on the damn floor.

Ex Pilots

Emo punks Ex Pilots roll pretty deep, packing six musicians in the back of the backroom at the Silhouette Lounge. What sort of bang do you get for that buck? A lot of guitars, a keyboard, and drums. The band released a self-titled full-length last year, though the material was written and recorded years earlier. The physical format is sold out in colored vinyl, sold out in black vinyl, and sold out on cassette. But, hey, you can still download the digital version and play it on your Microsoft Zune MP3 Player.
